Robert Indiana

14th October 2008

Robert Indiana, born in New Castle, Indiana and known as one of America’s most important 20th century artists, is one of the most important player of the Pop Art movement along with artists such as Lichtenstein and Warhol, who closely collaborated with Indiana on the film “EAT” in 1964.

The tapestries, exhibited at the gallery, are original works of art by Indiana and have been produced in conjunction with master rug maker and dye chromist John Gilbert to achieve a timeless, museum quality standard.

The Indian LOVE, featured at Scream, has emerged from a collaboration between John Gilbert, who lives in India, Dr Guido de Werd and Indiana during the preparations for the Museum Kurhaus/Wiesbaden in 2007.
When the artist discovered that there are 90 languages spoken in India, he then wanted the whole India to enjoy his PREM, and this is how the English PREM came to life.

Earlier in 2008, also, Robert Indiana created an image similar to his iconic LOVE showcasing the word HOPE. All the proceeds from the image has been donated to Democrat Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The Obama campaign is currently selling T-shirts, pins, bumper stickers and other items adorned with HOPE
